HOMOSEXUAL ANARCHY!
So they passed the hate crime legislation in the House, and the Senate should be voting on their companion bill any day now. Considering all the talk of filibustering by the folks over on the right, it’s a safe bet that it will pass. If the Republicans thought they could beat it they would just let it out on the floor for a vote.
I’m not sure what all the fuss is about. A guy named Matthew Staver over at the Liberty Counsel makes the following claim:
“In and of itself this law can be applied to speech. The nature of assault — putting someone in fear of their safety — what will that mean for someone preaching against homosexuality?”
Relax, Matthew. Those poor, used, ignorant bastards in the Ku Klux Klan and Aryan Nations are able to preach against race mixing and the Zionist conspiracy all they want without fear of legal recrimination. Why would the poor, used, ignorant bastards you roll with be treated any different? You should also consider that hate crime laws have been on the books for awhile now regarding black people and Jews. I have yet to read about some dumbass fifteen year old in Indiana getting twenty years for spray painting a swastika on an overpass. Nor are people getting thrown in jail for using the word “nigger.” (Although I have to say that listening to your average gangsta rap jam sort of makes me wish that they would.) So don’t worry. The First Amendment means that you can say whatever the hell you want. You guys are safe. Fred Phelps is safe. Feel free to carry on disgracing yourselves in public as much as you please.
But our man Matt has other concerns as well:
“It elevates homosexuality to the same protective category as race. It’s all part of the radical homosexual anarchist agenda,”
Matthew….you don’t really KNOW any homosexuals, do you? Anarchistic? All the gay guys I know freak out if their DVDs aren’t alphabetized correctly. But aside from that, has it occurred to you that the reason we have to put homosexuals in a protective category is because guys like you put them in a perfectly horrendous category in the first place? You know, what with the entire pulpit screeching about “deviancy” and “recruitment” and “hellfire,” and making it seem like it’s just a “personal choice” and other assorted nonsense? I don’t think you have a problem with “categories,” man. It’s obviously the “protective” element that bothers you.
Beating the shit out of gay people used to be considered a sport, Matthew. It’s not a joke. These beatings were laughed off by the cops and considered “the wages of sin” by Stone Age puritans like you. And yeah, I KNOW that there are already laws on the books regarding murder and assault and battery, and I also know that you might consider hate crime laws redundant. But I like to look at these laws as an additional “asshole penalty.” It’s a long overdue way for the United States of America to say “We don’t tolerate that sort of cement headed redneckery here. That is not FOR ONE SECOND what the hell we are all about.”
I have quite a few friends who are gays and lesbians, Matthew. Rest assured that it wasn’t a concerted effort on my part or anything, so maybe that might count in my favor when the Cosmic Space Daddy cashes out and gets the Rapture going. But what I figured out pretty quickly is that the fact that they are gay and lesbian is the least interesting thing about them. And if one of your soldiers of the lord took it upon himself to physically hurt one of my friends over something as pointless and trivial and irrelevant as THAT, I would, if I were able, cheerfully have that guy sent to the worst maximum security prison that I could find for as long as I could possibly make him stay. And thanks to hate crime legislation, that person gets to go to jail for even longer! Praise Jesus and all, Matthew, but I view that as nothing but a positive thing.
And if any of these scumbags (whom, honestly, I think you and your guys help to create) really think that run of the mill homosexuality is evil or wrong or sinful, just wait until they discover the sort that is practiced in their cell blocks.
If that isn’t justice, I dont know what is.
